Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module I
Introduction to Geographical Information System (GIS): Module III Components of GIS, recent trends in GIS, GIS Data (Vector and Raster), use of GPS in GIS, Crowd Sourcing and Mobile Mapping.
Module II
Maps in GIS: Coordinate Systems, Projections, Thematic Maps and Layers, Attribute Data Entry, manipulation of Fields and Attribute Data. Assignment: GIS Database generation for any small-scale area like a campus, neighbourhood, residential sector etc.
Module III
Applications of GIS: Geospatial database creation, such as preparation of base maps, attribute tables, etc., mapping using GIS (e.g., urban utility mapping) and demonstration of spatial modelling using GIS. Assignment: Application of GIS in a small-scale area like a campus for issues like better connectivity, accessibility or multi-criteria decision modelling for land uses or suitability analyses.

Course Objective

1. To introduce a multidisciplinary field of Geographical Information System.

2. To learn mapping and modelling present and future scenarios.
