Concepts of Maintenance, Repair, Rehabilitation, Restoration, Retrofitting, etc. Causes of deterioration, failure of structure, damages Methods of inspection and prevention from further deterioration Condition assessment of buildings.
Durability and serviceability of mortar, concrete, and steel:
Properties of concrete including strength and durability, types of corrosion of steel in RCC, methods of corrosion protection Special mortar and concretes.
Principles of structural repairs, renovation, and retrofitting:
Materials and techniques for repairs and protection methods techniques for structural restoration and retrofitting Shoring & underpinning principles and techniques of structural demolition Repair techniques for structural damages during earthquake, seismic retrofitting.
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM):
Process, components, instrumentation, and steps of SHM non-destructive inspection methods.

To introduce the different methods of identifying causes of deterioration, methods of inspection and
assessment of structures.

To understand the materials and techniques for repairs, renovation, and retrofitting.

1. Ability to assess the serviceability and durability of different building materials.
2. Acquire knowledge about the good practices of repairs, renovation, and retrofitting.
3. Ability to do structural health monitoring including non-destructive inspection of structures
