Introduction to EIA:
Introduction to components of EIA and methodology for performing EIA
Module II:
Components of EIA:
Air quality assessment, surface water management, hydrogeology and ground water assessment, baseline data collection for ecology, biodiversity assessment and its application in EIA, environmental impacts, environmental clearance process
Assignment: Analysis of case studies
Module III:
Life cycle analysis (LCA):
Definition from ISO 14040 and 14044 code, LCA as an important tool in EIA of industrial products and buildings, defining the systems boundary, various stages of LCA in buildings
Assignment: Perform whole building LCA of a small residential or institutional building

Course Objective

1 .

To understand the concept of Environmental Impact Assessment in the context of built environment design.

2 .

To apply EIA principles in built environment design.

Course Outcome

1 .

1. Ability to understand EIA and its role in built environment design and construction.
2. Ability to identify and implement EIA tools in building design and construction projects.
3. Ability to identify systems boundary while performing EIA for a project.
