Subject {L-T-P / C} : CE3703 : Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Machines Laboratory { 0-0-3 / 2}

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Students will do any 10 experiments out of below 12 experiments
1. Verification of Bernoulli’s theory. (3 hours)
2. Determination of the coefficient of discharge for V-notch.(3 hours)
3. Determination of the coefficient of discharge for a rectangular notch.(3 hours)
4. Determination of the coefficient of discharge for the orifice meter.(3 hours)
5. Determination of the coefficient of discharge for the Venturimeter.(3 hours)
6. Determination of the coefficient of friction loss through different pipes.(3 hours)
7. Determination of minor losses due to bends, fittings, and elbows in pipes.(3 hours)
8. Determination of Efficiency of Francis Turbine. (3 hours)
9. Determination of Efficiency of Pelton Wheel Turbine. (3 hours)
10. Determination of Efficiency of Kaplan turbine. (3 hours)
11. Determination of Efficiency of Centrifugal Pump. (3 hours)
12. Determination of Efficiency of Reciprocating Pump. (3 hours)

Course Objective

1 .

Understand the concept of fluid mechanics and hydraulic machines.

2 .

Demonstrate the experiments in fluid mechanics and hydraulic machinery.

3 .

Use of various flow measuring devices such as Venturimeter, orifice meter and notches etc.

4 .

Understand the performance characteristics of turbines and pumps.

Course Outcome

1 .

After the completion of this course, students will be able to:
CO1: Understand fluid dynamics and Bernoulli’s theory.
CO2: Understand the discharge measurement using a V-notch and rectangular notch.
CO3: Understand the principles of pipe flow and the measurement of different losses in pipe flow.
CO4: Apply the principles of Bernoulli's equation in the Venturimeter and Orifice meter.
CO5: Understand the working principle and performance evaluation of pumps and turbines.
