| Module 1 : |
Introduction and design approach: Properties of structural steel, Indian standard specifications and sections, analysis procedures and design philosophy, introduction to limit state design. [3 hours] |
| Module 2 : |
Design of connections: Bolted, and welded connections, design of simple and eccentric connections. [7 hours] |
| Module 3 : |
Design of tension members: Types of tension members, design of tension members, lug angles. [5 hours] |
| Module 4 : |
Design of compression members: Types of compression members, design of axially loaded compression members, built-up columns, lacing, batten. [5 hours] |
| Module 5 : |
Design of column bases: Design of solid slab base, design of gusseted base. [4 hours] |
| Module 6 : |
Design of beams: Behaviour of steel beams, section classification, web buckling and crippling, deflection, design procedure of rolled beams, design of purlins. [6 hours] |
| Module 7 : |
Design of plate girder: Elements of plate girder, proportioning of web and flanges, flexural strength, shear strength of web, design of stiffeners. [4 hours] |
