Course Details

Subject {L-T-P / C} : CE3202 : Design of Steel Structure { 3-0-0 / 3}

Subject Nature : Theory

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Introduction and design approach: Properties of structural steel, Indian standard specifications and sections, analysis procedures and design philosophy, introduction to limit state design. [3 hours]

Module 2 :

Design of connections: Bolted, and welded connections, design of simple and eccentric connections. [7 hours]

Module 3 :

Design of tension members: Types of tension members, design of tension members, lug angles. [5 hours]

Module 4 :

Design of compression members: Types of compression members, design of axially loaded compression members, built-up columns, lacing, batten. [5 hours]

Module 5 :

Design of column bases: Design of solid slab base, design of gusseted base. [4 hours]

Module 6 :

Design of beams: Behaviour of steel beams, section classification, web buckling and crippling, deflection, design procedure of rolled beams, design of purlins. [6 hours]

Module 7 :

Design of plate girder: Elements of plate girder, proportioning of web and flanges, flexural strength, shear strength of web, design of stiffeners. [4 hours]

Students will learn the basic concept of designing steel structural elements.

Students will learn to design bolted, and welded connections.

Students will learn to design tension and compression members in steel structures.

4 .

Students will learn to design steel beams and plate girders.

Students will be able to design simple bolted and welded joints in steel structure.

Students will be able to design eccentric bolted and welded joints in steel structure.

Students will be able to design steel tension members.

Students will be able to design steel compression members and column bases.

Students will be able to design steel beams and plate girders.
