Syllabus

Module 1 :

Structural Steel Design Principles and IS 800:2007 Provisions: Introduction to limit state design philosophy, structural steel sections, material properties, loading standards, estimation of design loads, and design provisions as per IS 800:2007. (3 hours)

Module 2 :

Design and Detailing of Bolted and Welded Connections: Design and detailing of bolted and welded connections in a steel structure. (3 hours)

Module 3 :

Design of Tension Members: Design of tension members considering yielding, rupture, and block shear failure. (3 hours)

Module 4 :

Design of Compression Members: Design of steel compression members in a steel structure. (3 hours)

Module 5 :

Design of Column Bases and Anchor Bolts: Design of slab base, gusseted base, base plates, anchor bolts. (3 hours)

Module 6 :

Design of Beams, Purlins, and Beam-Columns: Design of beams, purlins, and beam-columns in a steel structure. (3 hours)

Module 7 :

Design of Plate Girders: Design of plate girders, including flange and web design, stiffeners, and checks for shear buckling and web crippling. (3 hours)

Module 8 :

Introduction to Structural Modelling and Analysis using Staad.Pro: Introduction to Staad.Pro interface, generation of structural geometry, assignment of material properties, supports, loading, and analysis procedures. (3 hours)

Module 9 :

Basic Steel Design Steps and Output Interpretation using Staad.Pro: Introduction to steel design workflow in Staad.Pro, design parameter assignment, interpretation of analysis and design outputs, and verification with hand calculations. (3 hours)

Module 10 :

Preparation of Structural Steel Drawings and Detailing: Preparation of structural steel drawings and detailing based on hand calculations and Staad.Pro outputs, including column layouts, framing plans, roofing plans, connection details, and base plate and anchor bolt detailing.(3 hours)

Course Objective

Provide hands-on experience in designing structural steel components and connections using design specifications and codes.
