Syllabus

Module 1 :

Sustainability in Civil Infrastructure Systems (4 hours)
Concept of sustainability; triple bottom line; environmental impact of infrastructure systems; resource efficiency; sustainability challenges in Indian context.

Module 2 :

Sustainable Materials and Construction Practices (4 hours)
Low-carbon materials; recycled materials; green construction techniques; waste minimization; material selection based on sustainability performance.

Module 3 :

Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainability Metrics (6 hours)
Concept of LCA; embodied energy and carbon; carbon footprint; introduction to LCA tools (SimaPro, GaBi – conceptual); cost vs sustainability trade-offs.

Module 4 :

Green Rating Systems and Certification (6 hours)
GRIHA, LEED, IGBC rating systems; assessment criteria; energy, water, and material credits; sustainable urban infrastructure benchmarks.

Module 5 :

Digital Tools and Case Studies in Sustainable Engineering (4 hours)
Role of BIM in sustainability; energy modelling concepts; introduction to tools like Revit (conceptual), Green Building Studio; case studies comparing conventional vs sustainable solutions; decision-making exercises.
