| Module 1 : |
Introduction to Disasters and Disaster Management Framework - Definition and classification of disasters; Concepts: hazard, vulnerability, exposure, capacity, and risk; Disaster management cycle. (3 hours) |
| Module 2 : |
Natural Disasters and Their Impacts on Society - Characteristics of natural disasters: earthquakes, floods, cyclones, and tsunamis; Impacts of disasters on physical infrastructure, environment, and human life; Socio-economic consequences and vulnerability of different regions in India. (4 hours) |
| Module 3 : |
Introduction to Disaster-Resistant Design Codes – Role of design codes in disaster mitigation; Concept of disaster-resistant and life-safety design; Overview of IS 1893 (Part 1): 2016 for earthquake-resistant buildings including seismic zoning and design philosophy; Overview of IS 875 (Part 3): 2015 for wind-resistant design including basic wind speed and wind pressure concepts; Introduction to ductile behaviour as per IS 13920:2016; Role of National Building Code of India 2016 in integrating structural safety, fire safety, and evacuation provisions. (6 hours) |

Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation – Disaster preparedness; Structural and non-structural mitigation measures for different disasters; Structural retrofitting and strengthening of existing buildings; Early warning systems, communication networks, and emergency operations centers; Land-use planning; Role of GIS, remote sensing, and data-driven decision-making in disaster management; Role of engineers, planners, and local authorities in risk reduction. (6 hours) |

Institutional Framework and Post-Disaster Management – Institutional and policy framework in India: NDMA, NIDM, etc.; Disaster Management Act (2005); Role of Armed Forces; Rehabilitation and reconstruction planning; Psychological and social aspects of recovery and resilience-building; Integration of disaster risk reduction (DRR) with sustainable development goals (SDGs). (5 hours) |
