Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module I: Construction Contracts and Tenders (8 hours)
Indian Contracts Act, Types, Features, and Elements of Contracts, Suitability, Design of Contract Documents, Standard and International Contract Documents, Law of Torts, Tender Prequalification, Bidding and Accepting Norms, Evaluation of Tender from Technical, Contractual and Commercial Points of View, Contract Formation and Interpretation, Potential Contractual Problems, World Bank Procedures and Guidelines.

Module II: Arbitration (7 hours)
Comparison of Actions and Laws, Subject Matter, Agreements and Violations, Appointment of Arbitrators, Conditions of Arbitration, Powers and Duties of Arbitrator, Rules of Evidence, Enforcement of Award, Costs.

Module III: Legal Requirements (7 hours)
Insurance and Bonding, Laws Governing the Sale, Purchase, and Use of Urban and Rural Land, Land Revenue Codes, Tax Laws, Income Tax, Sales Tax, Excise and Custom Duties and their Influence on Construction Costs, Legal Requirements for Planning, Property Law, Agency Law, Local Government Laws for Approval, Statutory Regulations.

Module IV: Labour Regulations (7 hours)
Social Security, Welfare Legislation, Laws relating to Wages, Bonus and Industrial Disputes, Labour Administration, Insurance and Safety Regulations, Workmen's Compensation Act, Labour Laws.

Module V: Personnel Management (7 hours)
Elements of Personnel Management, Competency development and Leadership, Productivity Assessment tools, Motivation and Productivity improvement, Performance planning and assessment, Communications and Discipline related to Team Behaviour, Crisis Management, Case studies.

Course Objective

1 .

To study the various types of construction contracts.

2 .

To understand various types of Tenders.

3 .

To understand Labour regulations, their legal aspects, and provisions.

4 .

To study and understand personnel management related to a construction project.

Course Outcome

1 .

CO1: The students will be able to design the construction contracts and develop a skill for the tendering process.
CO2: The students will learn about the duties of the arbitrator.
CO3: The students will be able to develop an idea of the various legal requirements to be met concerning land and construction.
CO4: The students will be able to identify and apply the provisions provided in the labour welfare schemes.
CO5: The students will be able to develop and understand skills related to Leadership, Personnel Management.
