Course Objective

1 .

Help students to develop an understanding of free surface flow and enclosed flow in the real field but in the controlled environment.

2 .

To study the variation of dependent hydraulic variables with independent variables of pipe flow and open channel flow.

3 .

To verify the theoretical results with the experimental results.

4 .

To study different flow meters that will be useful for flow measurements and design study in water resources engineering.

Course Outcome

1 .

CO1: Apply fundamental fluid mechanics principles to analyze pipe and open channel flows.
CO2: Analyze velocity profiles, shear stress distribution, friction loss and energy losses in fluid flow experiments.
CO3: Evaluate the performance of hydraulic machines such as pumps and turbines under varying flow conditions.
CO4: Design experiments to calibrate measuring instruments like current meters and notches for flow measurement.
CO5: Demonstrate the use of advanced velocity and shear measurement techniques (ADV, Preston tube, CTA) in real-world hydrodynamics applications.
