Subject {L-T-P / C} : CE6232 : Advanced Reinforced Concrete Design { 3-0-0 / 3}

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module 1: [6 hrs]
Deflection of reinforced concrete beams: Short-term and long-term deflection, calculation of deflection by IS 456.
Estimation of crack width in reinforced concrete members: Factor affecting crack width, calculation of crack width.
Module 2: [6 hrs]
Design of concrete corbels: Load transfer, initial dimensioning, analysis and design of corbels.
Design of Deep Beams: Behaviour of deep beams, Flexural bending stresses and shear stresses, design of deep beams
Module 3: [8 hrs]
Seismic analysis of reinforced concrete buildings: basic seismology and characteristics of ground motions, Different methods of computing earthquake forces on buildings.
Module 4: [10 hrs]
Seismic design of reinforced concrete buildings: Different methods of computing earthquake forces on buildings, Ductility considerations in earthquake resistant design of RC buildings, Earthquake resistant design of multistorey RC building based on IS 13920.
Module 5: [6 hrs]
Evaluation of wind loads on RC buildings.
Design of shear walls: Classification of shear walls, Loads in shear walls, design of rectangular and flanged shear walls.

Course Objective

1 .

Students will learn the analysis of reinforced concrete buildings under seismic and wind loadings.

2 .

Students will learn to compute the deflection and crack width of RC beams.

3 .

Students will learn design of corbels and deep beams

4 .

Students will learn seismic design of reinforced concrete building frames and shear walls.

Course Outcome

1 .

1. Students will be able to understand the basic seismology and characteristics of ground motions.
2. Students will be able to perform analysis of RC buildings under the earthquake and wind forces.
3. Students will be able to design beams, columns and determine the crack width of RC members.
4. Students will be able to analyze and design RC corbels and deep beams.
5. Students will be able to design Earthquake resistant RC building Frames and shear walls.
