Laboratory 4: Load Test on Model Footing
Laboratory 5: Swelling Pressure Test
Laboratory 6: Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
Laboratory 7: Relative Density of Sand
Laboratory 8: Marsh Cone Viscosity Test of Bentonite
Laboratory 9: Swelling Index and Swelling Potential Test of Bentonite
Laboratory 10: Flow Net by Electrical Analogy method

Course Objective

1 .

Determination of shear and consolidation parameters of the soil

2 .

Evaluation of swelling and viscosity properties of soil

3 .

Examine and trace the flow pattern in hydraulic structures

4 .

Evaluation of bearing capacity of ground through model and field tests

Course Outcome

1 .

At the end of the course the students will be able to:
CO1: Conduct consolidation, direct shear, and triaxial shear tests.
CO2: Perform load tests and SPT to evaluate the bearing capacity
CO3: Assess swelling pressure, swelling potential and viscosity of expansive soils like bentonite.
CO4: Determine relative density of sand .
CO5: Use flow net techniques to study groundwater flow in hydraulic structures.
