Subject {L-T-P / C} : CE6172 : Foundation Engineering Design Practice { 0-0-3 / 2}

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Lab Class 1-2: Estimation of bearing capacity of shallow foundations for various types of loading conditions such as centric vertical, eccentric vertical, centric inclined and eccentric inclined load, depth of embedment, friction angle etc.
Lab Class 3: Estimation of elastic and average working settlement for shallow foundation subjected to centric and eccentric vertical load,
Lab Class 4: Estimation of deflection, slope, shear force and bending moment of shallow strip footing for various conditions using BNWF,
Lab Class 5: Development of pressure bulb using Boussinesq’s equation,
Lab Class 6: Estimation of pile load carrying capacity for both axial and lateral load.
Lab Class 7: Stability analysis of slope,
Lab Class 8: Analysis of different types of lateral earth pressure on retaining wall,
Lab Class 9-10: Modelling and Analyses of Geotechnical structures using various Geotechnical softwares like Geo5, OpenSees, PLAXIS 2D and 3D etc.

Course Objective

Learn the design approach for various geotechnical structures

Able to carry out stability analysis of slopes

3 .

Able to perform the stability analysis of retaining wall, sheet pile wall etc.

4 .

Able to apply MATLAB and other geotechnical softwares for design of geotechnical structures

CO1. Learn the design requirements for various geotechnical structures
CO2. To be acquainted with MATLAB coding to represent geotechnical problems
CO3. Learn to model and analyse geotechnical structures using geotechnical softwares like Geo5, OpenSees, PLAXIS 2D and 3D etc.
CO4. Able to carry out stability analysis of slopes, retaining walls etc.
CO5. Able to design various geotechnical structures using various Geotechnical softwares like Geo5, OpenSees, PLAXIS 2D and 3D etc.
