Syllabus

Module 1 :

Course Prerequisite: UG Level course on Foundation Engineering

Module I: The Ocean Environment (6 hours)
Waves, Currents, Winds, Sea bed Geology, Earthquakes, Floating ice.

Module II: Common Structural Systems (8 hours)
Jacket or Tension leg structures, Tower, Caissons, Concrete gravity platforms, Steel, Gravity platforms, FPSOspar platforms, Hybrids, Compliant Structures, and Factors governing selection.

Module III: Hydrodynamic loading of large offshore structures (8 hours)
Diffraction theory, Regions of validity, Application, Linear dynamic analysis.

Module IV: Foundations of Offshore Structures (8 hours)
Pile foundations, Prediction of axial pile capacity, Bearing capacity of footings, settlement of foundations.

Module V: Offshore construction (6 hours)
Drilling techniques, logging methods, location of drill sites, completion of walls, and marine survey.

Course Objective

To provide students with an understanding of the various parameters associated with the Ocean Environment.

To understand the common structural systems associated with the Ocean Environment.

To learn the Hydrodynamic loading of large offshore structures.

4 .

To design the Foundations of Offshore structures and provide solutions to Offshore construction.
