Syllabus

Module 1 :

Construction Methods (8 hours)
Concrete construction, Batching and Mixing, Transportation and Placement, Finishing, Formwork, Scaffolding, Steel construction, Fabrication and erection, High-rise Buildings, Highways, Bridges, Underground Utilities, Tunnels, Offshore platforms.

Module 2 :

Prefabricated and Modular Construction (7 hours)
Prefabrication, Types of Prefabricated Structures, Planning for pre-casting, Design Considerations, Design Requirements for Safety Against Progressive Collapse, Joints, Stages of Precasting of Concrete Products, Tests For Components/Structures, Stacking, Handling Arrangements, Identification and Marking, Transport, Erection, Equipment, Modular Construction, Modular Co-ordination, Advantages and Limitations of Modular Construction.

Module 3 :

Construction Equipment (7 hours)
Identification, Planning, and Selection of Equipment, Equipment Management in Projects, Equipment cost, Operating cost, Cost Control of Equipment, Depreciation Analysis, Replacement of Equipment.

Module 4 :

Equipment for Earthwork (7 hours)
Earth Moving Operations, Tractors, Motor Graders, Scrapers, Front end Waders, Dozer, Excavators, Rippers, Loaders, trucks and hauling equipment, Compacting and Finishing equipment.

Module 5 :

Other Construction Equipment (7 hours)
Equipment for Dredging, Trenching, Dragline and clamshells, Tunnelling, Equipment for Drilling and Blasting, Pile Driving Equipment, Erection Equipment, Crane, Mobile crane, Forklifts and related equipment, Portable Material Bins, Material Handling Conveyors, Industrial Trucks, Equipment for Dewatering and Grouting, Equipment for Demolition.

Course Objective

1 .

To study the basic construction methods associated with a construction project.

2 .

To study and understand the various types of equipment used for earthwork.

3 .

To study and understand the various types of equipment used for tunneling, drilling, blasting, dewatering, material handling conveyors, and their applications in construction projects.

4 .

To study and understand the importance of safety management related to a construction project.

Course Outcome

1 .

Develop knowledge of various construction methods in the construction industry.

2 .

Develop knowledge of prefabricated and module construction techniques.

3 .

Develop knowledge on planning and selection of equipment.

4 .

Explain the fundamentals of earthwork operations, earth-moving operations, and types of earthwork equipment.

5 .

Develop knowledge of special types of construction equipment and will be able to select the proper materials handling equipment.
