Module 1 :

Module I: Introduction to Economic Analysis of Transportation Systems (4 Hours)
Introduction to Transportation Systems Analysis, Basic Concepts of Economic Analysis Principles
governing transportation planning, investment, operations, and maintenance
Module-II: Economic and Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Transportation Systems ( 10 hours)
Transportation Cost and Benefits, Stages involved in Economic Evaluation, Economic Evaluation Models, Life Cycle cost analysis of transportation projects
Module III: Demand, Supply, and Economic Analysis of Transportation (8 Hours)
Classification of Demand, Transportation Demand Management, Price Elasticity, Income Elasticity, Supply curves, determinans of Price Elasticity of Supply, Demand, Supply and Equilibrium, Consumer Surplus and Market welfare
Module-IV: Transportation Operating Cost ( 10 Hours)
Vehicle Operating Cost- VOC Components, VOC Factors, Road User Cost, Congestion pricing- Economics and Congestion, Congestion countermeasures, Ways of Congestion pricing, Case study.
Module-V Finance Modes and Implementation Policies (4 Hours)
Fiscal Policy, Strategies for raising funds, Taxes, Different funding options, user charges, Public-private partnership, Financing mechanism,
Fiscal measures, User charges, and Critical Issues in Funding of Transportation, software for economic analysis.

Course Objective

1 .

Acquainted with basic concepts of benefits and cost components of Transportation Economic analysis principles

2 .

Familiar with life cycle and different economic evaluation methods of transportation infrastructures

3 .

Acquainted with utility, road user cost, congestion cost and fund raising principles

4 .

Acquainted with issues in transportation infrastructure reforms and participation of different parties in fund raising

Course Outcome

1 .

At the end of the course, students will be able to
CO 1: Understand the basis for economic evaluation analysis and apply different methods of economic evaluation for the assessment of transportation infrastructure investments.
CO 2: Carry out life cycle cost analysis of transportation infrastructure projects by following several established steps.
CO 3: Investigate in detail effect of changes in demand and supply of commodities in transportation economics.
CO4: Analysis Vehicle operating cost, congestion pricing and get acquaintance with modern software's used for transportation economics analysis.
CO5: Appraise various financial models and funding systems for the development of transport infrastructure.
