Module 1 :

Module-1 Introduction
Eukaryotic vs. Prokaryotic cell and the complexities introduced in eukaryotes at cellular level, Cell Junctions: Types and structure of junctions (Desmosomes, Hemi-desmosomes, Adherens junctions, Tight junctions, Gap junction), molecular organization, technologies to characterize and visualize the cell junctions
Module 2 Cell Adhesion Molecules
CAM (Molecular structure in details, function), Cadherin family of proteins (Molecular structure in details, function), Integrins (Molecular structure in details, function), Spectrins (Molecular structure in details, function), Cell adhesion molecules and their role in cancer, metastasis, inflammation, reproduction and immunity
Module 3 Cell surface Receptors:
Ion linked Receptors, Enzyme Linked Receptors (serine/Threonine kinases R, Tyrosine kinase R, Guanine cyclase R), Cytokine Receptor superfamily, GPCR Signal Transduction via Surface Receptors (Jak-Stat, R-Smod/Co-Smad, Ras-MAPK, NFkB/JNK, NFkB/MAPK and TOLR pathways, GPCR pathways): Emphasis on GPCR pathways, cAMP Signaling from Receptor to Function Dual Signaling Pathway: Inositol phosphates and protein kinase C, calcium & calmodulin Cross-Talk and Scaffolding proteins, signal amplification & cascade mechanisms
Module 4 Microtubules & Motor Proteins
MTs organization, MAPs and motor proteins (kinesin/dynein), IFs, microfilaments, myosins (types, structure, processivity, function
Module 5: Chemotaxis
Chemokines, chemokine receptors & the Inflammatory response
Module 6: Intracellular Trafficking:
Receptor Mediated Endocytosis, Vesicle Trafficking: COPs, SNARES
Module 7: Cell Cycle
Stages, regulation of cell cycle specific genes, cell repair and cancer
Module 8: Apoptosis and Caspases

Course Objective

1 .

To enable students learn latest findings in cell and molecular biological processes.

2 .

To learn the advanced technologies of wet lab experiments.

Course Outcome

1 .

1. The students would be exposed to the most recent research work in cell and molecular biology and can get a clear picture regarding the potential field to carry out their doctoral research.
2. The students get an in depth knowledge concerning the engineering principles of advanced cell and molecular biology techniques.
3. To analyze the results of various immune assays including clinical diagnostic reports.
4. To design experiments as per the research requirements
5. To design and develop cytometry protocols as per industrial standards
