Atmospheric Electricity: Fair weather electric field in the atmosphere and potential gradients ionization in the atmosphere Electrical conductivity Atmospheric Electric Field Atmospheric currents and Charge Earth Charge and worldwide current system Electrical Equilibrium and Variations Solar influence on Earth’s Atmospheric Electrical parameters Middle Atmosphere Ion Concentration, mobility, and conductivity Electrical fields in thunderstorms theories of thunderstorm electrification.

Module 2

Agricultural Meteorology: Hydrological cycle and its components Diurnal and annual variations of soil at different depths Importance of various weather elements Components of Agricultural Meteorology The atmosphere and Solar Radiation Factors affecting evapotranspiration Agrometeorological Observations Crop protection from adverse meteorological phenomena-droughts, heavy rains, storms, cold waves and frost, heat waves, shelter from winds. Crop Weather calendars.

Agrometeorological forecasting: Weather Forecasting for Agriculture Methods of weather forecasting Weather Service Organizations Application of short, medium, and long range forecast in agriculture Climate and crop production Weather Hazards and their impact on Crops Climatic requirements of different crops Impacts of Climate Change on Crop Production Agroecological Classification crop-yield forecasting. Aviation Meteorology: Role of meteorology in aviation Influence of meteorological elements on aircraft SIGMET weather hazards associated with take-off cruising and landing inflight – icing, Turbulence and wind shear: sources and impact on aviation Role Jetstream’s in aviation Influence of Clouds and thunderstorms. visibility, fog, clouds, rain, gusts, wind shear and thunderstorms now casting and very short range forecasting. Climatology of some of the aviation weather hazards over Indian region.

Module 5

Urban Meteorology: Urbanization Land-use and land-cover changes due to urbanization Impact of LULCC on surface energy budget Understanding the urban growth and sprawl Urban boundary layer Urban Heat Island and its effects Urban air pollution and its impact Impact of urbanization on mesoscale weather Possible impacts of large-scale urbanization on regional climate.

Course Objective

1 .

1. To know the Application of meteorology in Aviation, Agriculture and Urbanization.
2. To understand the concepts of atmospheric electricity, thunderstorm electrification.
3. To assess the impact of various extreme meteorological events in the field of agriculture, aviation and societal impact.
4. Understand the impact of Land use land cover change and urbanization in regional weather and climate
