Module 1 :

Module I Introduction - Defining globalisation cities under conditions of contemporary globalisation – dual nature of economic globalisation, transnational migration, rise to trans-national companies

Module II: Urban restructuring – urbanization and spatial restructuring, economic restructuring, demographic restructuring, urban system restructuring – rise of nodes and networks impact of globalisation of Indian cities

Module III: Urban hierarchy - System of urban hierarchy at the global scale methodology to establish global hierarchy emphasis of non-spatial proximities identification and definition of global cities

Module IV: Approaches to planning global cities - Policies pertaining to global city planning and management

Course Objective

1 .

To understand the effects of globalisation in organizing settlement patterns and structure of urban areas

Course Outcome

1 .

Ability to design research and experiments, identify parameters and formulate methodology
Ability to apply and integrate qualitative and quantitative knowledge into planning process
Ability to understand complexity, conflicts, and multi-disciplinary aspects of planning
Ability to understand the contextual reference and impact of any decision on society and community
Ability to identify and resolve the lacunae in existing planning process and management
Ability to understand and incorporate the need of various stakeholders
Ability to formulate appropriate strategies and policies applying cutting edge concepts and technologies related to sustainable planning
