Syllabus

Module 1 :

Analysis of diffractographs of FCC, BCC metals, mechanical mixture & alloys. High temperature microscopic study. Microstructure and elemental analysis of metallic sample by SEM Study. To carry out the thermal analysis of Al sample using TG – DSC technique (Melting point and oxidation study). Dilatometric study of given Al plate sample. Thermal analysis of calcium oxalate. Thermal analysis of epoxy polymer using DSC technique (glass transition temperature).

Course Outcome

1. Understanding the basics of the XRD characterization technique.
2. Determination of phase analysis and crystal structure of materials using XRD.
3. Calculation of crystal size and strain using XRD.
4. Gaining knowledge of microscopy techniques for characterization of materials.
5. Demonstration of various microscopic sample preparation techniques.
6. Understanding various thermal analysis techniques.
