Module 1 :

Preparation of rock specimen for determination of physio-mechanical properties of rock

Module 2 :

Determination of Durability Index of Rock and coal sample by Slake Durability Apparatus

Module 3 :

Determine the strength index of rock and coal aggregates by Protodykonov apparatus

Module 4 :

Evaluation of Impact strength of Rock aggregates by Impact Strength apparatus

Module 5 :

Determination of Uni-axial compressive strength of rock materials by Compression M/C

Module 6 :

Determine the Uni-axial Tensile strength of rock specimen by Indirect method (Brazilian test)

Module 7 :

Determination of Point load strength Index of rock specimen (Cylindrical & Irregular Specimen)

Module 8 :

Evaluation of shear strength parameter of Soil by direct shear –test apparatus

Module 9 :

Determination of modulus of elasticity and passions ratio of rock samples

Module 10 :

Determination of cohesion and angle of Internal friction by tri-axial test

Module 11 :

Determination of index parameter of rock mass using Schmidt hammer test

Course Objective

1 .

To select the right sample and prepare it according to the tests needed

2 .

To identify the type of machines needed for each test and operate those machine with minimum assistance/guidance

3 .

To decide the type of tests needed to obtain the right parameters of rocks

4 .

To carry out determination of different properties of rocks

5 .

To interpret the results and analyse those for engineering design purpose

Course Outcome

To be able to select the source of rock/soil samples for further investigation

2 .

To be able to prepare and perform tests for index properties of soil/rock as durability and surface properties

3 .

To able to prepare and perform tests for mechanical properties of soil/rock as compressive, tensile and shear parameters

4 .

To be able to prepare, perform and determine three-dimensional stress properties

5 .

To perform and predict rock properties from simple field tests apparatus
