2. Thermal decomposition of Calcium carbonate and measurement of its equilibrium constant and free energy change
3. To study the strength of iron ore and coke
4. Palletization of iron ore fines, the firing of pellet, and measurement of their crushing strengths.
5. Reduction and Swelling of fired Iron ore pellet by Charcoal
6. Extraction of Cu from a low-grade ore through Hydrometallurgical route
7. Extraction of Cu from a low-grade ore through Electrometallurgical route
8. Electro-refining of Cu from an impure anode
9. Recovery and Extraction of iron from red mud

Course Objective

1 .

A thorough understanding and practical knowledge of principles of pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy and electrometallurgy processes which has been taught in the class rooms. Due attention would be given to prepartion of raw materials, extraction of ferrous as well as non-ferrous metals.

Course Outcome

1 .

CO 1: Knowledge about the methods of determination of some of the thermodynamic properties like free energy change, equilibrium constant CO 2: Knowledge about the raw materials preparation for pyrometallurgical extraction e.g. reducing agent (CO), flux (lime stone) etc
CO 3: Knowledge about methods of testing of metallurgical coke, ores, sinters, pellets for determination of their strength
CO 4: Knowledge about the use of ore fines i.e. pelletization to produce usuable products
CO 5: Knowledge about the method of pyrometallurgical extraction of iron ore, the principle of hydrometallurgical and electrometallurgical extraction of non-ferrous metalsCO 6: Utilization of industrial waste to produce useful products e.g extraction of iron ore from red mud
