Syllabus

Module 1 :

Experiment 1 – To study the size distribution of a metalliferous ore by using a Test Sieve Stack
Experiment 2 – To study the size distribution of a metalliferous ore by using a Vibratory Shaker
Experiment 3 – To study a Jaw Crusher and determine the average size and reduction ratio of crushing a metalliferous ore
Experiment 4 – To study a Ball Mill and determine the average size and reduction ratio of grinding a metalliferous ore
Experiment 5 – To study the Hammer mill, and determine the average size and reduction ratio of grinding a metalliferous ore
Experiment 6 – To study a shaking table (Wilfley Table) and study the underlying principle
Experiment 7 – To study the principle of Froth Flotation Cell and beneficiation of a metalliferous ore
Experiment 8 – To study the principle of a magnetic separation unit and determine its efficiency

Course Objective

1 .

To understand the different processes of size reduction

2 .

To understand the separation of minerals on the basis of gravity, magnetic and electrical properties after size reduction

3 .

To comprehensively write a report on the test results related to various mineral dressing techniques

4 .

To improve communication skills through in-process discussions and viva

Course Outcome

1 .

CO1 - Evaluate and experiment with the size distribution of ores and coal/coke through Sieves and shakers.
CO2 - Knowledge of different crushing units and determination of size distribution.
CO3 - Knowledge of different grinding units, i.e., Ball mill, hammer mill, and determination of size distribution.
CO4 - Knowledge of separation units based on particle shape and size.
CO5 - Knowledge of separation units based on the physical properties of particles.
CO6 - Knowledge of separation units based on the chemical properties of particles.
