Syllabus

Module 1 :

Experiment 1. Rotordynamic analysis of rotor supported in rolling element bearings.
Experiment 2. Experiment on hydrodynamic bearings test rig.
Experiment 3. Prediction of expected life of a ball bearing for a corresponding load.
Experiment 4. Vibration studies of high speed locomotive turbocharger.
Experiment 5. Single plane balancing using industrial high precession balancing machine.
Experiment 6. Rotordynamics analysis of a misaligned rotor supported in rolling ellement bearings.
Experiment 7. Static and dynamic balancing of rotating masses.
Experiment 8. Rotordynamics analysis of a misaligned rotor supported in oil lubricated bearings.
Experiment 9. Vibration analysis of high speed cryogenic turboexpander
Experiment 10. Dual plane balancing using industrial high precession balancing machine.

Course Objective

1 .

Familiarize with the concept of rotordynamics studies to understand the behaviours of rotor supported in various types of bearings.

2 .

Get practical knowledge on various rotating machinery defects through vibration studies.

3 .

Learn to balance the unbalanced rotor using industrial balancing machines

4 .

Impart knowledge of various turbomachinery such as turbocharger and turboexpander.

Course Outcome

1 .

CO1: Understanding behaviours of rotor supported by various types of bearings.
CO2: Learn to acquire various signals data in rotor-bearing mechanical system in rotordynamic simulator .
CO3: learn to predict various defects in rotor-bearing mechanical system in rotordynamic simulator.
CO4: Understand behaviours of various high speed turbomachinery from vibration studies.
CO5: Understand concepts of unbalance and balancing methodology in balancing machine.
