Module 1. Introduction and Orbital Dynamics: [6]
Overview of Satellite Communication, Historical background and current State, Kepler’s three laws of planetary motion, orbit of satellite, Orbital elements, look angle determination, Placement of GEO satellite, orbital perturbation and orbital effects on Communication System performance.
Module 2. Space and Ground Segment: [6]
Satellite subsystems: Attitude and orbit control system, Telemetry, Tracking, Commands and Monitoring, Power system, Communication system, Satellite antennas, Reliability. Equipment for the Earth station, Small earth station antennas.
Module 3. Satellite Link Budget: [8]
Basic transmission theory, system noise temperature and G/T ratio, down link design, up-link design, overall carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR), effect of interferences and atmospheric attenuation.
Module 4. Modulation and Multiple Access Techniques: [8]
Digital modulation techniques, Frequency division multiple access, time division multiple access, code division multiple access, practical demand access systems, random access, multiple access with on-board processing Satellite
Module 5. Advanced Satellite Systems: [8]
Applications of Satellite Communication, Small satellites, Satellite television, Satellite internet, Satellite navigation system.

To design and analyze the satellite link budget.

To study subsystems of satellite communication.

After completion of this course students will be able to
1. Understand the concepts of satellite communication and orbital dynamics.
2. Gain knowledge of practical satellite communication systems including Navigation, satellite internet, satellite television.
3. Evaluate sub-systems including space and ground segments of satellite communication.
4. Design overall link and analyze satellite communication performance.
5. Apply link budget and communication techniques for advanced satellite Systems.
