Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module I [8 h]: Introduction to Automation technologies, applications around us and in manufacturing. Types of systems - mechanical, electrical, electronics Sensors, Factory Automation Sensors, Electrical sensors, Process Automation Sensors and their interfaces Advanced automation functions, Levels of automations, Digitalization and the Networked Economy, Drivers, Enablers. Introduction and overview of Internet of Things, cloud computing, cyber-physical systems.

Module II [7 h]: Hydraulics & Pneumatic Systems and components Circuit design approach and examples Sequence operation of more than two cylinders and motors Electro Pneumatic & Electro Hydraulic Systems, Relay Logic circuits, Relay control, Sequence control of a lifting device, Terminal Allocation, Feedback control systems Control Components - Pressure, Flow rate, Direction control valves
Module III [7 h]: Programmable Logic Controllers, programming languages & instruction set, ladder logic, functional blocks, structured text, and applications. Programmable Logic Controllers, Electrical connection diagram, I/O interfacing, E stop circuits, programming languages & instruction set, ladder logic, Timers, Counters, functional blocks, structured text, and applications.
Module IV [7 h]: Motion control functions and PID loop control using PLC
Human Machine Interface & SCADA Motion controller, stepper & servo motors, multi axes coordinated motion, CNC control RFID technology and its application Machine vision and control applications
Module V [7 h]: Overview of material handling systems: Types of material handling equipment, Design of the system, Conveyor system, Automated guided vehicle system.
Automated Manufacturing Systems: Components, Classification and overview of manufacturing systems, Cellular manufacturing, Flexible manufacturing system (FMS).

Course Objective

To expose the various automation techniques employed in process control

To impart the role of PLC, SCADA in industrial automation

3 .

To impart knowledge on different communication protocols used in process automation

4 .

To present the importance of automation in manufacturing and process industries

Course Outcome

1. Understand the different parameters of PLC, SCADA, Hydraulic, Pneumatic controller
2. Able to know the influence of input parameters
