Syllabus

Module 1 :

Experiment 1: To determine the wear and co-efficient of friction of the material during sliding by using pin on disc apparatus.
Experiment 2: Study and experimentation on of Profile Meter
Experiment 3: To find the erosion rate of a given sample by air jet erosion test rig.
Experiment 4: To evaluate the abrasion resistance of composite using a dry sand abrasion tester as per ASTM G 65 standards.
Experiment 5: To determine the distribution of lubricating oil at various loads and speed of a Journal Bearing.
Experiment 6: To determine wear rate using two body abrasion test apparatus
Experiment 7. Rotordynamic analysis of rotor supported in rolling element bearings.
Experiment 8. To investigate the vibration characteristics of liquid lubricated bearings by measuring and analyzing vibration signatures using time and frequency domain analysis
Experiment 9. Prediction of expected life of a ball bearing for a corresponding load.
Experiment 10. Static and dynamic balancing of rotating masses
Experiment 11. Single and dual plane balancing using industrial high precession balancing machine

Course Objective

1 .

• Get practical knowledge on wear and friction of different materials
• Familiarize with the concept of tribology and rotor dynamics studies to understand the behaviours of rotor supported in various types of bearings.
• Get practical knowledge on various rotating machinery defects through vibration studies.

• CO1: To understand prediction methodology of friction and wear parameter

• CO2: To understand use of erosion and abrasion concepts using erosion and abrasion wear test rigs

3 .

• CO3: To understand rotor dynamic behaviours of rotor supported by rolling element and oil lubricated bearings using rotor.

• CO4: To understand causes of rotor unbalance and approaches to balance it.
