Subject {L-T-P / C} : CH6371 : Process Simulation Laboratory { 0-0-3 / 2}

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Simulation of steady and transient state heat and mass transfer processes along with reactors, Design of solid handling processes, Design of Membrane process, Design of processes using Aspen Tech. software alone or with Excel sheet at the interface, Design of controllers, Flow sheeting of selected chemical plants using Aspen Tech software (Aspen Plus, Aspen Hysis and Aspen Dynamics modules).

1. Calculation of bubble point and dew point of a feed mixture and distillate condensate. Estimation of T-x-y and P-x-y diagrams for both ideal and non-ideal solutions
2. Simulation of a binary distillation system using DSTWU and RadFrac simulators and estimation of optimum column conditions
3. Simulation of a multicomponent distillation system using DSTWU and RadFrac simulators and column sizing
4. Simulation of a trayed absorption column and sensitivity analysis
5. Simulation of a basic process flow sheet in pressure driven system
6. Dynamic simulation of a process with control actions
7. Design and simulation of heat exchangers: Shell and Tube, Plate type, Fin tube and double pipe
8. Design and simulation of a condenser
9. Design and simulation of a multiple-effect evaporator systems
10. Design and simulation of a stirred tank (jacketed and non-jacketed) for unsteady state heating and cooling of water

To design controllers of different processes

Course Outcome

1 .

Doing this course, students will be able
CO1: to design different kinds of heat exchangers using in-house developed computer code or commercial software.
CO2: to design different kinds of Mass Transfer equipment using in-house developed computer code or commercial software.
CO3: to design different chemical equipment using commercial software, Aspen Tech.
CO4: to find different mechanical parameters of the designed equipment.
CO5: to apply the process equipment design lab knowledge in his/her academic and professional project work for designing different process equipment effectively.
