Module 1 :

Module I – Geometric design and speed optimization (6 hours)
Module II – Advanced Railway Tracking Mechanism (8 hours)
Railway and track dynamics, Rail ride comfort, Railway track irregularities and damage mechanisms
Module III – Safety (6 hours)
Derailment safety
Module IV – Structural Design of Tracking System (8 hours)
Structural design, interaction between rolling stock and track,
Module V – Reliability and Capacity Enhancement (8 hours)
Risk and reliability and capacity.

Course Objective

1 .

To Perform geometric design of track alignment by use of computer tools such as NovaPoint software

2 .

To Make speed calculations on the basis of track geometry and train parameters

3 .

To Design the track superstructure and select appropriate track components

4 .

To Perform traffic capacity calculations for simple and complex situations

Course Outcome

1 .

CO1 Understand the railway system at the different levels and appreciate the different professional skills needed
CO2 Good judgment of track superstructure layer thickness and components material selection
CO3 The principles for geometric design of railway tracks
CO4 Design the track alignment using computer tools
CO5 Traffic capacity for single and double track, in stations and junctions
