Course Objective

1 .

Understand the formation, classification, and physical properties of rocks.

2 .

Analyze the effect of discontinuities on the strength behavior of rock masses.

3 .

Evaluate different rock strength and failure criteria.

4 .

Apply rock mechanics principles in civil engineering applications, including tunneling, slope stability, and rock foundation design.

Course Outcome

1 .

Able to know the formation of various types of rock and their properties.

2 .

Knowledge of Field and laboratory test procedures and be able to interpret test results needed to estimate intact and rock mass properties.

3 .

Able to know about Geological structures (joints, crack, faults, and fold) and their side effects on engineering projects.

4 .

Identify problems in the rock mass and able to provide improvement in the properties of the rock mass.

5 .

To know the properties of rocks and one may predict the strength and behaviour of rocks for designing structures in/on rock masses.
