Syllabus

Module 1 :

Introduction to CAD/CAM/CIM and CAE:
This module introduces the fundamental concepts and scope of computer-aided technologies in modern manufacturing. Students will learn the principles and significance of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM). The module explores their interrelationships, hierarchy, elements, and key industrial applications, highlighting the role of digital technologies in product design and production systems.

Module 2 :

Group Technology and Computer-Aided Process Planning (CAPP):
Students will understand the concept of Group Technology (GT), part classification and coding systems, and the organization and implementation of GT in manufacturing environments. The module also covers Computer-Aided Process Planning (CAPP), its types, system architecture, and integration with CAD and CAM. Case studies and industrial applications demonstrate how GT and CAPP improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce lead times, and enable flexible production planning.

Module 3 :

Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) and Automation Strategies:
This module provides an in-depth understanding of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS), their building blocks, and integration into modern manufacturing environments. Students will study machining systems, tool management, workpiece handling, and FMS control strategies. The role of automation and digital integration in enhancing productivity and flexibility is also discussed. Applications such as Computer-Aided Assembly Planning and Computer-Aided Inspection are explored.

Module 4 :

Numerical Control (NC) and CNC Programming:
This module focuses on the fundamentals of Numerical Control (NC) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, including their evolution, current status, and impact on modern design and manufacturing. Students will learn NC part programming using manual G- and M-codes, as well as APT language programming. Emphasis is placed on the integration of CAD/CAM data into NC programming workflows, toolpath generation, and post-processing for CNC machine operation.

Module 5 :

Robotics in Manufacturing Systems:
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of industrial robotics, including structure, configurations, specifications, and operations. The module explores various types of robot sensors, actuators, and end-effectors, as well as robot programming methods. Applications of robotics in material handling, assembly, welding, and inspection are discussed, highlighting their role in flexible and automated manufacturing systems.
