Subject {L-T-P / C} : ME2171 : Machine Drawing and Solid Modelling { 0-0-3 / 2}

Syllabus

Module 1 :

MODULE I [9.0 Hrs]

Engineering Drawing of machine components: Projection of solids, Sectional views,
Nut & bolt and Fasteners, Cotter joint, Plummer block, Expansion joint Shaft coupling, Clutch, Bearing

MODULE II [3.0 Hrs]

Introduction to solid modelling,
Sketching tools - Lines, Circle, Rectangle, Elipse, Arc, etc.
Dress up tools - Pattern, Move, Fillet, Chamfer, etc.
Constrains- Constraints and Geometrical relations like horizontal, vertical, Fix, parallel, perpendicular, Tangent, co-radial, Equal, Make equal length. etc.

MODULE III [9.0 Hrs]
Part Modelling Tools
Material Adding Tools - Extrude, Revolve, Sweep, Loft, etc.
Material removing tools- Extrude Cut, Revolve Cut, Sweep Cut, Loft Cut, etc.
Dressup tools- Fillet, Chamfer, Pattern, Mirror, etc.
Reference tools- reference plane, Reference axis, Curve, etc.

MODULE IV [6.0 Hrs]
Surface Modelling tools- Extrude surface, Revolve surface, Sweep surface, Loft surface, Boundary surface, Filled surface, Planner surface, Trim surface. etc.

MODULE V [6.0 Hrs]
Assembly Modelling: Assembly tools- Importing parts, applying basic Mates, Pattern, Moving components, etc.
Motion study (Animation) and Exploding the Assembly.

MODULE V [3.0 Hrs]
2D drafting from Solid Modelling and Assembly Modelling, Sectional Views, Orthogonal Views

Course Objective

1 .

To impart the working knowledge of the machine drawings

2 .

To develop engineering drawings of the mechanical components.

3 .

To UTILIZE knowledge of curves and surfacing features and methods to create complex solid geometry

4 .

To CONSTRUCT solid models, and assemblies using various modeling techniques & To PERFORM mass property analysis, including creating and using a coordinate system

Course Outcome

1 .

The students will be able :
1. To understand the basics of machine drawings.
2. To draft engineering drawings of various machine components.
3. To use various tools of modelling software for creating solid models with various features.
4. To create a solid model of different engineering components and create their 2D views/ Sectional views
5. To use various tools for the assembly of components as per the geometric constraints
