Syllabus

Module 1 :

Introduction to Inclusive Design: Concepts, principles, and historical evolution. Overview of social inclusion in the Indian context, including constitutional provisions and policies .

Module 2 :

Understanding Marginalization in India: Analysis of key challenges such as poverty, gender disparities, rural-urban divide, and disability. Exploration of socio-economic factors and their impact on access to technology and design.

Module 3 :

Technology for Social Inclusion: Role of emerging technologies in bridging divides. Case studies on Indian initiatives and gender-responsive tech solutions.

Module 4 :

Design Methodologies for Inclusion: User-centered design, participatory design, and universal design principles adapted to Indian contexts. Methods for empathy mapping, accessibility testing, and ethical considerations in design.

Module 5 :

Practical Applications and Projects: Hands-on projects involving prototyping inclusive designs. Evaluation of impact, sustainability, and scalability in marginalized communities, with focus on real-world implementation in India.

Course Objective

1 .

To introduce students to the fundamentals of inclusive design and its significance in promoting social equity in diverse Indian societies.

2 .

To examine how technology can address barriers faced by marginalized groups due to economic conditions, gender inequality, and geographic divides.

3 .

To equip students with skills to create user-centric designs that foster inclusion and accessibility.

4 .

To encourage critical analysis of ethical, cultural, and contextual factors in Indian design practices.

To teach students about developing solutions through design frameworks, prototyping the solutions and testing them in real world context.
