Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module 1: Philosophy of surface, general applications and requirements.
Module 2: Surface Degradation: Basic principles of electrochemistry and aqueous corrosion processes Oxidation and related concept Mechanical Friction and Wear like abrasive, erosive and sliding wear etc. Interaction between wear and corrosion.
Module 3: Surface engineering processes and their types.
Module 4: Conventional heat treatment processes.
Module 5: Physical vapour deposition, Chemical vapour deposition, Galvanizing, Electrodeposition, Thermal Spraying and many more
Module 6: Laser and plasma techniques
Module 7: Plastic deformation-based surface engineering techniques
Module 8: New coating concepts including multi-layer structures, thermal barrier coatings, and case studies.
Module 9: Surface characterization

To study surface degradation basics

To understand different conventional surface engineering techniques

To study different modern surface engineering techniques like laser and plasma-based processes.
