Module 1 :

Experiment 1: Determination of crushing efficiency of a jaw crusher 3 Hours

Experiment 2: Perform milling operation with variable time and ceramic products with different hardness using roller mill 3 Hours

Experiment 3: Determination of ball milling efficiency 3 Hours

Experiment 4: Sieve analysis using powders obtained from grinding and milling operations 3 Hours

Experiment 5: Determination of particle packing by McGeary Equation 3 Hours

Experiment 6: Determination of particle packing using Furnus model 3 Hours

Experiment 7: Compaction behavior of triaxial body by varying load and time using uniaxial press 3 Hours

Experiment 8: Slurry preparation and tape casting 3 Hours

Experiment 9: Extrusion of ceramic paste using triaxial body, ball clay, and china clay 3 Hours

Experiment 10: Powder synthesis using planetary mill and hydrothermal method 3 Hours

Experiment 11: Determination of apparent porosity, bulk density, diametral tensile strength (DTS) of green and fired pellets 3 Hours

Course Objective

1 .

To provide hands-on experience in various ceramic processing routes.

2 .

To impart and develop a fundamental understanding of ceramic part processing and fabrication phenomena at the undergraduate level for ceramic engineering students.

3 .

Familiarize students with various stages adopted by ceramic industries, starting from raw material beneficiation to finished products in pilot scale and their implications during production.

Course Outcome

1 .

Apply theoretical knowledge to independently synthesize ceramic materials in bulk, and powder forms.

2 .

Analyze industrial ceramic processing phenomena and develop prototype products at the laboratory scale

3 .

Demonstrate hands-on proficiency in advanced ceramic processing techniques at the laboratory scale.

4 .

Design conventional and advanced ceramic products at the laboratory scale to address emerging technological needs.

5 .

Implement ceramic fabrication methods, perform analytical characterization, and effectively document and present results within stipulated timelines.
