Significance of different ceramic processing operations. Powder synthesis, Colloidal and sol-gel processing. Powder characterization: Shape, Surface Area, Porosity, Chemical and Phase composition. Preparation of bodies: Blending of different weight fractions and size ratios, use of binders, types of binders Plasticizers, Foaming and anti-foaming agents, granulation and spray drying. Dry pressing, Semi-dry pressing, Slip casting, Extrusion, Non-traditional shape forming: Gel casting, Tape casting, Freeze Casting, Injection moulding, Electrophoretic deposition, Isostatic pressing. |
