Subject Nature : Theory

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module 1: Various examples of nanoscience found in Nature, History of nanotechnology, Nanoscale and Bonding [4 hours]
Module 2: Surface energy, Mechanisms for reduction of surface energy, Wulff plot, Chemical Potential and Surface Curvature, Oswald ripening, [5 hours]
Module 3: Electrostatic Stabilization, Polymeric stabilization, DLVO theory. [4 hours]
Module 4: Nanoparticles through Nucleation, Growth controlled by diffusion, and surface process, Practical examples of nucleation types [5hours]
Module 5: Colloids, sol-gel process Potential route for nanomaterials synthesis, Dip coating, spin coating, and spray coating.[3 hours]
Module 6: Synthesis and different parameters for developing nanoparticles, Synthesis approaches: Reduction, Microwave refluxing , Hydrothermal, Ultra-sound assisted,Combustion, Mechanochemical, precipitation, and novel route to develop porous nanomaterials. [4 hours]
Module 7: Characterization and properties of nanomaterials. [4]
Module 8: Application of nanomaterials [3]

Course Objective

1 .

To aware the importance of nano over micro ceramics/materials

2 .

To study different synthesis methods for preparing nanomaterials and its characterization

3 .

To understand the effect of nano on different properties and its applications

4 .

The course modules are structured in such a way that it would immensely help students aspiring for higher studies

Course Outcome

1 .

CO1: To gain knowledge on the basic of nanomaterials.
CO2: Apply the theoretical knowledge imparted during the course to carry out synthesis and characterization of materials for independent research and developmental work.
CO3: To apply the knowledge of nanoscience in industry and research.
CO4: To use modern techniques, latest engineering tools and apply skills in industrial as well as research problems.
