Experiment 1 Brief Introduction to the Laboratory Sessional and Determination of Plasticity Index of Clay
The aim of the experiment will be to determine Plasticity Index of clay by (i) Atterberg Plasticity Index Method, (ii) Pfferfkorn Test Method
To determine the Plastic Limit, Liquid Limit and Atterberg Plasticity Index of a clay 3 Contact Hours
Experiment 2 Effect of firing temperature on the shrinkage, water absorption and bloating behaviour of clay
The aim of the experiment will be to determine the optimum firing temperature of a clay based body by monitoring shrinkage, water absorption and bulk density of the fired bodies. Additionally, defects that may be generated in the clay body on firing can also be observed. 3 Contact Hour
Experiment 3: To determine the vitrification range of a clay based body and to decide the best firing temperature 3 contact hours
Experiment 4 Effect of non plastics (Quartz, Feldspar) addition on the firing behaviour of fired properties of clay based bodies
This experiment will determine the effect of quartz and feldspar addition on the firing behaviour of clay based bodies The experiment will be conducted in Gradient Zone Furnace. 3 Contact Hours
Experiment 5 Slip Preparation of Triaxial body and determination of Deflocculant Demand Curve 3 Contact Hours
This experiment will teach slip making procedure, the effect of deflocculant for preparing a flowable/pourable slip. T
Experiment 6 Slip casting of triaxial body and validation of casting rate equation (L2/t) law
In this experiment, slip casting of triaxial bodies by drain casting method will be tried in POP mould and the casting rate will be monitored. The effect of composition and/or deflocculant concentration of slip casting rate will be monitored. 3 Contact Hours
Experiment 7 Firing of cast bodies.
The cast bodies will be fired at different temperatures between 1150 to 1275oC. The physical properties, colour, vitrification will be studied on the fired bodies. 3 contact hours

Experiment 8 Glazing of Fired bodies and firing of glazed bodies
The fired triaxial bodies will be glazed by dip coating and brushing method, dried and fired at the firing temperature. The appearance and properties of the glazed bodies will be studied..3 Contact Hours

Demonstration/Group Experiment Filter pressing of Clay slurry and preparation of Filter cake
Demonstration/Group Experiment Preparation of Tiles by Extrusion method

To correlate theoretical knowledge with hands on experiment on Clay Plasticity, shrinkage, bloating, triaxial body preparation.

To correlate theoretical knowledge with hands on experiment on glazing and firing of glazed body

CO1: To be well versed about different aspects of whiteware processing routes and to use them to fabricate products using casting, hand shaping, extrusion
CO2: To be well versed with the importance of deflocculants in triaxial body slip preparation and to prepare slip by themselves.
CO3: To be well versed with biscuit firing, glazing, and glost firing of the prepared shapes.
