Module 1 :

Module 1, 8 hrs, CO1
FUNDAMENTALS OF MEASUREMENT: Systems and Standards, GALVANOMETERS: Construction, Performance, Steady State and Dynamic Behaviours of D’Arsonval, Vibration, and Ballistic Galvanometers.

Module 2, 12 hrs, CO2
ELECTROMECHANICAL INDICATING INSTRUMENTS: Ammeters and Voltmeters: PMMC, Moving-Iron, and Electrodynamometer type, Ohmmeters: Series type and Shunt-type Ohmmeters, Thermo-instruments, Watt-hour Meters, Power-Factor Meters and Instrument Transformers.

Module 3, 8 hrs, CO3
Potentiometers, DC and AC Bridges: Wheatstone bridge, Kelvin bridge, A.C. Bridges and their Applications: Maxwell bridge, Hay bridge, Schering bridge, and Wein bridge, Measurement of high resistance by Megger.

Module 4, 7 hrs, CO4
ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTS FOR MEASURING BASIC PARAMETERS: Amplified DC Meter, AC Voltmeter Using Rectifiers, True RMS Voltmeter, Electronic Multimeter, Digital Voltmeters: Ramp type, Integrating type, and Successive-Approximation type Component.

Module 5, 5 hrs, CO5
Measuring Instruments: Q-meter, Vector Impedance Meter, Vector Voltmeter, RF Power and Voltage Measurements.

Course Objective

1 .

Understanding basic measuring instruments of different types such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeter, etc.

2 .

Learning different bridges for measurement of resistance, capacitance, inductance, etc.

3 .

Understanding the measurement methods involved in AC and DC electronic meters.

4 .

Familiarization with various types of digital meters and analyzers.

Course Outcome

1 .

1. To understand the basic principles of the electrical and electronics measuring instruments
2. To learn the measurement of the electrical quantities.
3. To study and analyze the problems related to AC and DC bridges.
4. To understand the working principle of the AC and DC electronic meter.
5. To study and analyze the instruments related to impedance and RF power measurement.
