| Module 1 : |
This course provides basic level scientific and technical knowledge on material chemistry, nanochemistry and their applications. It includes fundamental and history of material, as well as chemistry and application of common advanced materials like solid materials, semiconductors, polymers, carbon materials, and nanomaterials. First half of semester involves understanding synthesis and characterization of bulk and nanomaterials (the Fundamentals). Topics to be covered include introduction to crystal structures with elaborate discussion on common crystal systems. In these classes, fundamental synthesis of bulk materials and nanomaterials will be presented. Bulk and nano materials like metal, metal semiconductors, ceramics, and polymers synthesized via different methods will be discussed. Later on, diffraction and other techniques used for characterization of materials will be presented. Properties Stuff including, but not limited to, properties of materials (chemical, electrical, magnetic, optical and mechanical) will be elaborated. Finally, some common materials like batteries, fuel cells and solar cells will be discussed. |
