Syllabus

Module-1: [8 Hours]
Introduction: What is a signal and a system, classification of signals, properties of systems, Noise, Linear Time Invariant Systems: The convolution sum and integral, Relations between LTI system properties and the Impulse Response, Step Response, Block diagram representations, State variable descriptions of LTI systems.

Module-2: [11 Hours]
Fourier representations of signals: Fourier Series Representation of Periodic Signals, Continuous-Time Fourier Transform, Discrete-Time Fourier Transform, Properties of Fourier Representations, Finding inverse Fourier Transforms by using Partial fraction expansions, Parseval Relationships, Time-Bandwidth Product.

Module-3: [5 Hours]
Applications of Fourier representations to mixed signal classes: Fourier Transform representations of Periodic signals and discrete time signals, Fourier series representations of Finite duration non periodic signals.

Module-4: [7 Hours]
The Laplace Transform: The Laplace Transform, Unilateral Laplace Transform, Properties of Unilateral Laplace Transform and bilateral Laplace Transform, properties of the region of convergence, Causality and Stability, Determining the Frequency Response from Poles and Zeros.

Module-5: [7 Hours]
The Z-Transform: The Z-Transform, Properties of Region of Convergence, Properties of the Z-Transform, Inversion of the Z-Transform, Causality and Stability, The Unilateral Z-Transform. Application to Linear Feedback Systems: Basic feedback concepts, Sensitivity analysis, the stability problem, Root locus method, Nyquist Stability Criterion.

To design and development of system for different applications

1. Able to Analyze and classify signals and LTI systems.
2. Able to Use convolution and Fourier representations to Analyze signals.
3. Understand Laplace transform, frequency response, and stability analysis.
4. Use Z-transform to design linear feedback systems, and Analyze stability and sensitivity.
5. Develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as well as fundamental principles and applications of signals and systems.
