Syllabus
Module 1: Wiring Systems: Introduction to wiring system, systems of distribution of electrical energy, methods of wiring, systems of wiring, choice of wiring system.
Module 2: Wiring materials and accessories: Wire and cable, conductor materials used in cables, insulating materials, mechanical protection, types of cables used in internal wiring, main switch and distribution board, lighting accessories and fittings, fuses, earthing conductor, protective devices for wiring installations, energy meter
Module 3: Earthing systems: Earthing, IS specifications regarding earthing of electrical installations, points to be earthed, factors influencing earth resistance, methods of reducing earth resistance, methods of earthing, determination of size of earth wire and earth plate for domestic installations, materials required for GI pipe earthing, effects of electric currents on human body, protection of building against lightning, measurement of earth resistance
Module 4: Lighting Sub-Circuits: Circuits and sub-circuit, Types of lighting circuit, Various circuit diagrams, Two-way switching, Bedroom lightning
Module 5: Lighting Schemes and Calculations: Aspects of a good lighting scheme, different types of lighting schemes, street lighting system, Methods of lighting calculations
Module 6: Internal wiring estimation:General rules for wiring, determination of number of points, determination of total load, determination of number of subcircuit, determination of ratings of main switch and distribution board, determination of size of conductor
Module 7: Electrical Installation for power circuits: Important considerations regarding motor installation wiring, determination of - input power, input current, rating of cables, ratings of fuses
Module 8: Overhead Transmission and Distribution Lines: Main components of overhead lines, conductor material, overhead line insulators, lightning arresters, repairing and jointing of conductors, position of conductor and attachment to insulators, earthing of transmission lines, guarding of overhead lines, clearance of conductors from ground
Course Objectives
- Able to incorporate theoretical knowledge of electrical engineering in practical aspects of internal wiring, Motor installation, and overhead transmission lines
- Understand the Indian Standards in the installation of various electrical equipment
- Estimates the total cost of installation using a computer program and standard datasheets
