Course Details

Subject {L-T-P / C} : ME6106 : Computer Aided Design and Analysis { 3-0-0 / 3}

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module 1 (05 Hrs):
Fundamentals of CAD: The design process, Product life cycle. Application of computers for design, Design work station, Graphics terminals, Operator input devices, Plotters and other output devices, CPU, Secondary storage, Analysis & optimization, Design evaluation and Automated drafting techniques. Database integration for CAD/CAM.

Module 2( 06 Hrs):
Raster scans Graphics: Algorithms for rasterization of straight lines, circles, Ellipse etc. Numericals on raster scan, Project assignment rasterscan.
Display Generation Techniques: Real time scan conversion, Run-length encoding, Cell organization, Frame buffer memory.

Module 3 (07 Hrs):
Graphics Display Interface and Phases of CAD: Geometric transformations for translation, rotation, refelection, shearing etc, Viewing transformations, Projections, window & Clipping. Geometric modeling, Project assignment geometric transformation.

Module 4: (10 Hrs)
Curves and Surfaces: Parametric curves, Cubic, Hermite, Bezier and B-spline curves, properties, manipulation, NURBS. Analytical surfaces, Ruled surfaces and surfaces of revolution, Other synthetic surfaces, Normal and curvature, Surface manipulation techniques, Simple numericals on curves and surfaces.

Module 5 (06 Hrs):
Solid Modeling and visual realism: Various representation techniques Data structures for CSG and B-Rep models. Topology validation criteria. Use of solid modeling, Computer aided Engineering, Hidden line/surface removal algorithms, Coloring and light sources, Shading algorithms, Animation, double buffering. (8 hours)

Module (02 Hrs):
Standards: Graphics portability, Different graphics standards, Exchange standards, IGES, DXF, STEP, Introduction to product data exchange standards.

Course Objective

To provide the fundamental concepts of graphics and CAD

To know different geometric modeling techniques and concepts of computer aided drafting

3 .

To learn the concepts of computer aided engineering and visual realism

4 .

To understand the need of standards in CAD

Course Outcome

1 .

CO1: Understand the basic concepts components of CAD/CAM concepts of Graphics Techniques.
CO2: Apply various scan conversion rules for display of various curves,
CO3: Apply transformation rules to for point and curves.
CO4: Apply various rules for generating curves and surfaces as per industrial applications.
CO5: Understand representation techniques for generating solid models
