INTRODUCTION

In the last decade cryopreservation technologies have been evolving rapidly, opening the door to the possibility of long-term storage of various biological materials including valuable genetic resources of many crops, forest species etc. In recent years cryopreservation has been considered as promising preservation technique in medical field including the cryopreservation of a wide range of Stem cells, Reproductive Cells, Tissues and Organs. The short self-life of these products has led the researchers worldwide to concentrate on the methods or techniques that can increase their viability during storage.

Though cryopreservation has been recognized as a promising technique for achieving long-term storage and have been applied to an increasingly diverse range of biological materials there is lack of awareness and many laboratories lack expertise in applying correct preservation and storage procedures and many apply outdated or inappropriate protocols for storing samples or cultures. The objective of this workshop is to provide the participants the basic principle of cryobiology, its state of art in medical and biological applications, methods, optimization protocol and possible research projects in this area.

THEME
  • Introduction to cryogenics
  • Fundamentals of cryobiology
  • Cryopreservation methods & optimization protocols
  • Cryopreservation and storage equipments
  • Cryopreservation in medicine
  • Cryopreservation of biological material
  • Cryosurgery
  • Cryobiology research in India
ABOUT NIT ROURKELA

The National Institute of Technology Rourkela was founded as the Regional Engineering College, on 15th August 1961. The institute was declared as the National Institute of Technology with Deemed to be University status on 26th June 2002 and subsequently the institute has become the National Institute of importance under the Act of Parliament on 15th August 2007. NIT Rourkela is a prestigious institute which provides quality education in a diverse and multi-cultural environment. ABOUT CAFET-INNOVA TECHNICAL SOCIETY (ORISSA SECTION):

CAFET-INNOVA Technical Society (CITS) is a non-profit organization helping the scientific community established in 2007. The headquarter of the society is situated in Hyderabad and is registered by the Government of Andhra Pradesh under the AP Societies Registration Act, 2001. CITS has been formed with a motive of encouraging young talents towards the field of Research and Development (R&D). Activities like symposia, conferences, workshops, guest lectures by eminent scientists and academicians are organized by the society. It has also a publication unit having 5 international journals. It also provides an opportunity for enthusiastic students in publishing their books. CITS Orissa Section has been formed under the chairmanship of Prof. Sunil Kumar Sarangi, Director of NIT Rourkela.
