ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The workshop on “Application of Data Mining Techniques in Bioinformatics (DMTB)” aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and students to share and disseminate information on knowledge and scientific research in the area of bioinformatics. Over the past few decades rapid developments in molecular research technologies and advancement in sequencing techniques have generated huge dataset of sequences of the genomes and proteomes of many organisms and these datasets are now readily available in various public domain databases. This surge in data has revolutionized modern biological research and broadens the horizon and applicability of bioinformatics in understanding biological phenomena. Data mining plays a vital role in bioinformatics. Data mining is the search for hidden trends within large sets of data and these approaches are needed at all levels of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and epigenomics analysis. In this workshop, we wish to discuss recent developments and applications of data mining techniques in bioinformatics in understanding biology and explore the possibility of development of novel data mining algorithms and tools to harness genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic data to enrich our bioinformatics expertise in India.

TOPICS
The Workshop ‘DMTB’ will focus on the current research trends and advances in bioinformatics. It broadly encompasses the following themes; though not strictly restrictive to the following:
Biological databases, data mining tools & their applications
Sequence analysis & comparative genomics
Genomics, proteomics & molecular phylogeny
Microarray data analysis
Epigenomics
Structural bioinformatics, protein modeling & docking
Soft-computing and pattern recognition
RNA informatics
Systems biology and bioinformatics
Cheminformatics

WHO CAN APPLY?
Faculties, research scholars, graduate and post graduate students working in areas of life sciences interested in the above mentioned areas and want to apply these approaches to their work.

VENUE
The Workshop will be held on 03 - 05 December 2009 at Conference Hall, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, Orissa. Rourkela is one of the well developed steel township on Howrah-Mumbai main line (via Nagpur) of South Eastern Railway. It is well connected by railway network to the rest of India. The NIT campus is about 8 km from Rourkela Railway station.
