APPLICATION OF DATA MINING TECHNIQUES
IN BIOINFORMATICS (DMTB) |
(3rd - 5 th December, 2009) |

| |
 |
| The workshop on “Application of Data Mining Techniques in Bioinformatics (DMTB)” aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and students to share and disseminate information on knowledge and scientific research in the area of bioinformatics. Over the past few decades rapid developments in molecular research technologies and advancement in sequencing techniques have generated huge dataset of sequences of the genomes and proteomes of many organisms and these datasets are now readily available in various public domain databases. This surge in data has revolutionized modern biological research and broadens the horizon and applicability of bioinformatics in understanding biological phenomena. Data mining plays a vital role in bioinformatics. Data mining is the search for hidden trends within large sets of data and these approaches are needed at all levels of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and epigenomics analysis. In this workshop, we wish to discuss recent developments and applications of data mining techniques in bioinformatics in understanding biology and explore the possibility of development of novel data mining algorithms and tools to harness genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic data to enrich our bioinformatics expertise in India.
