  Introduction  
  The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India set up a National Technical Manpower Information System (NTMIS) in 1983. The system comprises of a Lead Center at the Institute of Applied Manpower Research (IAMR), New Delhi and 21 Nodal Centres in the country. The functioning and overall supervision of the scheme is presently being carried out by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Computerised Data banks are maintained at the State and National levels by the Nodal Centres and the Lead Centre respectively. Under this system, the Nodal Center based at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela-769008 (Orissa) is empowered by AICTE to collect relevant data pertaining to the state of Orissa from all the students passed out Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Management, Computer Application, Pharmacy or Hotel Management and all Catering Technology from the Government and private institutes located in the state of Orissa.

Estimation of Supply
Forecasting anticipated gaps in demand and supply
Matching job requirements with facilities for education and training
Assessing the adequacy of the current enrolment rate
Undertaking studies on emerging and specialized areas and fields requiring urgent attention for expansion of facilities for education and training
